Snowdon

Project Status: Built

Completion: 2022

Contractor: The Build Lab

Structural: SinMa

Set within a conservation area, an existing stone dwelling finds new life with a contemporary addition.

The design focuses on a modern black-clad extension which provides a contemporary kitchen and dining area bathed in natural light, strategically positioned to maximize views overlooking the Moss Valley. The bold contrast between the traditional stone and the black cladding creates a contemporary addition, respecting the historical context while embracing modern design principles.

Extending the property presented a significant challenge due to its location within a protected green belt area. Stringent planning regulations limit the scale of expansion. However, the decision to remove the existing conservatory and porch proved crucial, effectively freeing up volume and reducing the impact of the extension on the green belt.
